Before the Test

Need more info about the test? Don’t know who your proctor is? Unsure if the language you need is offered? Here’s the place for you…

Processing Your Registration

If you have questions regarding the registration process itself, feel free to check out our Registration Page here.

After you register and pay for the FLATS exam, your registration will be processed by our office staff. This is not an automated process, so it may take us one to three days to process your registration. Please be sure to plan accordingly for this time frame.

Once we process your registration, we will send you an email containing the instructions of what you need to do next. This email will contain your proctor information and how to contact them. It is your responsibility to then reach out to your proctor and schedule your FLATS Test.

Important Things to Note…
  • The FLATS Test requires a payment of $50. There might be additional fees that your school or proctor charges, but those are separate from the $50 FLATS fee.
  • If you register without paying, you will be sent an email requesting that you register + pay again. Any registrations without a payment will be deactivated.
  • Registrations are valid for 6 months, and you can only register for one language every 6 months. Any duplicate registrations will be deactivated and refunded.
  • Please be sure to input an accurate email address in your registration! Make sure to double-check your email address before you submit your registration. Without an accurate email, you will be unable to take the test or receive your score report.

Study Material for FLATS

We do not offer practice material specific to the FLATS Exam, but here is some information that will help you to feel more confident when taking the test:

  • Watch or listen to news reports, podcasts, or YouTube videos from the country/language you will be tested on. The listening portions are vital parts of the exam, and the listening segments tend to be quick, so it is good to be prepared for that.
  • Be familiar with the grammar and conversation that could be found in 101, 102, and 201 level college courses.
  • The listening sections will not have any written questions. You will choose your answers from written multiple-choice options.
  • The reading and grammar sections will have written questions in English and the test language.
  • The test is composed of only multiple-choice questions and listening prompts; there are no writing or speaking sections. During your test preparation, we advise that you be well-versed in beginner and intermediate grammar and conversation.
